Course Title: |
The Principles and Practice of Knowing Your Client |
Details: |
Know Your Client (KYC) is an ethical and legal responsibility for those in the financial services industry. On the surface, satisfying the requirements of KYC seems incredibly simple: an advisor must simply follow the rules about what information must be obtained from the client, and the KYC requirement will be satisfied. In fact and in practice, however, Know Your Client is a challenging and demanding directive, because it requires that the investment professional devote time, care, and insight into assessing a client's motives, needs, and goals.
This informative course describes:
· KYC in the context of the New Account Application Form;
· KYC in the context of the information required to fulfill obligations under the Proceeds of Crime (Money-Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act;
· the communication skills that can be employed to obtain information from the client and to better understand the psychological motives that underlie his or her investment behaviour;
· the importance of setting goals with the client;
· how client expectations can be managed;
· methods to mitigate risk;
· how to ascertain the suitability of investments for each client.
It also provides twenty self-assessment questions that will help the advisor judge whether he or she has recommended suitable investments for a client.
This course will have an impact on how advisors view and use KYC information – for their benefit and that of their clients. |
